stick with it!

I think the thing that has helped me the most with my beauty resolutions, is realizing the importance of sticking with it.

As cheesy as it may sound, I’ve realized that what they say is true… achieving health related goals is all about making it a lifestyle. I know, I know, it sounds cliché… But I’m serious, it is totally possible.

My husband and I decided to try out a vegan diet a few years ago. We ended up eating completely vegan for over a year and a half! That was something I would have never believed was possible for this “meat and potatoes” pair. I feel that the main reason we were successful was because we simply decided to stick with it. No exceptions. I’ve always been good at starting, but I tend to give up pretty easily. It is usually the very first weekend on a date with my husband, or when I’m having hormone related meltdown… Once I give up, it’s extremely hard to get going agin. To me, there is nothing worse than starting over again and again.

The biggest things that have helped me stick with it…  Read more…

thoughts on beauty

On 28, Feb 2013 | 7 Comments | In thoughts | By Shelby

Lately I’ve felt like I’m constantly finding a part of my appearance that I want to improve. Whether I’m starting a new workout plan, changing my diet, trying out a new hairstyle or beauty routine, etc… it can be a little exhausting! Anyone with me? As soon as I accomplish one “goal,” it seems I’m on to the next, never stopping to really be happy with who I am right this minute. Finally, I’ve decided enough is enough.

I’ve decided to make caring about my appearance a part of my every day choices instead of constantly setting big, lofty – yet short term – goals. I want to live a beautiful life instead of seeing beauty as something I’ll hopefully obtain one day. Each day I try to find and do little things that will positively affect the way I feel about myself. I’ve realized my real goal is not only to be beautiful but to also be content with who I am.

I will be posting some of the things that have helped me feel more beautiful and content… both inside and out. I’d love to hear how you do the same in your every day life… please share! Because we are all beautiful and we should never think otherwise!

xo.

A Few Beauty Favorites

My husband took me out on a hot date for Valentine’s Day and I decided to spend a little extra time getting ready. In addition to my normal routine I painted my nails and put on a little red lipstick… voila! I instantly felt glamorous. I’m currently obsessing over these nail and lip combos and just had to share. Each product works great as a combo and on its own!

  1. ModelCO SHINE Ultra Lipgloss in “Strip Tease” – I got this great gloss in my Birchbox a few months ago and I have fallen in love with it. It is sheer and not overly sticky, and works great on its own or over lipstick. It tastes and smells really good too! It’s also very convenient that there is a little mirror on the tube for touch ups!
  2. Essie Nailpolish in “Fiji” - I’m addicted to this pale pink color. After two or three coats, the color is opaque and not sheer. It is so fresh for spring and looks great with any outfit!
  3. Essie Luxeffects Nailpolsih in “A Cut Above” – I love this polish because it’s so versatile! It’s meant to be a topcoat and works great over just about every color. If you paint two or three coats it also looks like a pure sheet of glitter. I painted each of my ring fingers in this glitter while the rest of my nails were “Fiji”.
  4. Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipstick in “The Red” – I am just starting to wear lipstick so I didn’t want to spend too much on my first tube. The Sephora brand runs about half the price of many others I looked at and the quality is awesome! The color is the perfect red and the best mix of matte and glossy (a little more on the matte side). If I’m looking for a more dramatic look, I will put a little gloss over the top to add some shine.

I’d love to know, what are some of your beauty favorites?

liquid

I have always loved the liquid eye liner look, but I’ve been a little nervous to try it out for myself. I recently conquered my fear and discovered it is surprisingly simple to apply and gives dramatic results. I am now obsessed with the “cat eye” liner look. This technique will give you a classic look that is perfect for a date or anytime you are in the mood for a little something special. I tried out MAC Cosmetics Penultimate Eye Liner and I absolutely love it! It goes on so smoothly and is the perfect shade of matte black.

I used this picture tutorial to apply mine. Later, I found this video tutorial that is also very helpful!

So, don’t be afraid to try out the liquid look for yourself!

Do you have a favorite eye liner? What do you think of this look? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
