DIY tassel bracelet

On 13, Sep 2013 | No Comments | In DIY | By Shelby

I am head over heels in love with tassels!

I was inspired by these gorgeous bracelets while browsing Pinterest a while back. I’ve also seen similar bracelets at Nordstrom for $50 each! I decided they looked easy enough to make and each bracelet only cost about $2. I got all the supplies at Hobby Lobby and with their great sales and 40% off coupons it was a fun, inexpensive, easy to finish craft. I’ve been wearing them every day since and love them! I like to mix and match, wear them alone or with a big watch. It’s all about the “arm party” so, the more the merrier! Check out the full tutorial after the jump…

eisley – setlist

One of my favorite bands, Eisley, played a great little show in Tempe back in June. They are promoting their latest album so I didn’t expect to hear too many of their more classic tracks, however I was pleasantly surprised by the great set they played! It was a little sample from each of their albums. If you have never listened to Eisley, this setlist is a great place to start! You can listen to my playlist on Spotify, here. What were your favorite concerts of the summer?

{mini} apple pies

Learning to bake a perfect apple pie is on my bucket list. Luckily for me, my mom is the pie master and has tried countless recipes throughout the years. I decided to practice by making this all-american favorite in a mini version. The recipe below is our current favorite because it is absolutely delicious, but also happens to be vegan! This crust satisfies both our vegan and non-vegan family members… You’ll never even know these mini pies are egg and dairy free!

you should be listening to: Rooney

On 18, Mar 2013 | 2 Comments | In music | By Shelby

Diptic-2

The temperature has been climbing here in sunny Arizona. This week we experienced record breaking heat in the mid 90′s! All of this sunshine and warm weather puts me in the mood for happy, feel good, summertime music. That’s where Rooney comes in.

Rooney is one of my go-to bands. They’ve been around since I was in highschool, but I can still listen to their albums over and over again. Their music is timeless and I never get tired of hearing their west coast, laid back sound that is the epitome of summertime. All the band members are from Southern California and listening to their music will put you right on the beach.

The lead singer Rob Schwartzman comes from the famous Coppola family. In addition to a musician, he is an actor most notably staring in the movie The Princess Diaries. Remember the cute brunette Anne Hathaway ends up with at the end? Yep that’s him! Rob dropped out of college in New York and moved back to California to keep making music with Rooney. And I’m so glad he did!

My favorite albums are Rooney, and Calling the World. You can listen to them from start to finish without a bad song in the bunch. The band is still together and I’m hoping they make a few more summertime playlists.

You should be listening to Rooney!

What music puts you in the mood for sunshine and summertime?

You can listen to my favorite Rooney songs on my playlist HERE.

stick with it!

I think the thing that has helped me the most with my beauty resolutions, is realizing the importance of sticking with it.

As cheesy as it may sound, I’ve realized that what they say is true… achieving health related goals is all about making it a lifestyle. I know, I know, it sounds cliché… But I’m serious, it is totally possible.

My husband and I decided to try out a vegan diet a few years ago. We ended up eating completely vegan for over a year and a half! That was something I would have never believed was possible for this “meat and potatoes” pair. I feel that the main reason we were successful was because we simply decided to stick with it. No exceptions. I’ve always been good at starting, but I tend to give up pretty easily. It is usually the very first weekend on a date with my husband, or when I’m having hormone related meltdown… Once I give up, it’s extremely hard to get going agin. To me, there is nothing worse than starting over again and again.

The biggest things that have helped me stick with it…  Read more…

how to eat a grapefruit

On 07, Mar 2013 | No Comments | In recipes | By Shelby

One of my favorite things about our recent move to Arizona is the amount of perfectly ripe citrus I’ve been eating. Many of our neighbors and family members have every variety of citrus growing in their yards. Luckily they’re willing to share! I’ll never get tired of fresh ruby red grapefruit. For me it makes the perfect mid-morning snack. Just as I’m starting to get hungry after breakfast, I like to eat a grapefruit to tide me over until lunch.

Growing up, I would ask my mom to “make” a grapefruit for me. She always took the time to cut it just right and sprinkle a little sugar on top! So I thought I would share the best way to eat a grapefruit from an Arizona native!

thoughts on beauty

On 28, Feb 2013 | 7 Comments | In thoughts | By Shelby

Lately I’ve felt like I’m constantly finding a part of my appearance that I want to improve. Whether I’m starting a new workout plan, changing my diet, trying out a new hairstyle or beauty routine, etc… it can be a little exhausting! Anyone with me? As soon as I accomplish one “goal,” it seems I’m on to the next, never stopping to really be happy with who I am right this minute. Finally, I’ve decided enough is enough.

I’ve decided to make caring about my appearance a part of my every day choices instead of constantly setting big, lofty – yet short term – goals. I want to live a beautiful life instead of seeing beauty as something I’ll hopefully obtain one day. Each day I try to find and do little things that will positively affect the way I feel about myself. I’ve realized my real goal is not only to be beautiful but to also be content with who I am.

I will be posting some of the things that have helped me feel more beautiful and content… both inside and out. I’d love to hear how you do the same in your every day life… please share! Because we are all beautiful and we should never think otherwise!

xo.

A Few Beauty Favorites

On 21, Feb 2013 | One Comment | In beauty | By Shelby

phonto

My husband took me out on a hot date for Valentine’s Day and I decided to spend a little extra time getting ready. In addition to my normal routine I painted my nails and put on a little red lipstick… voila! I instantly felt glamorous. I’m currently obsessing over these nail and lip combos and just had to share. Each product works great as a combo and on its own!

  1. ModelCO SHINE Ultra Lipgloss in “Strip Tease” – I got this great gloss in my Birchbox a few months ago and I have fallen in love with it. It is sheer and not overly sticky, and works great on its own or over lipstick. It tastes and smells really good too! It’s also very convenient that there is a little mirror on the tube for touch ups!
  2. Essie Nailpolish in “Fiji” - I’m addicted to this pale pink color. After two or three coats, the color is opaque and not sheer. It is so fresh for spring and looks great with any outfit!
  3. Essie Luxeffects Nailpolsih in “A Cut Above” – I love this polish because it’s so versatile! It’s meant to be a topcoat and works great over just about every color. If you paint two or three coats it also looks like a pure sheet of glitter. I painted each of my ring fingers in this glitter while the rest of my nails were “Fiji”.
  4. Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipstick in “The Red” – I am just starting to wear lipstick so I didn’t want to spend too much on my first tube. The Sephora brand runs about half the price of many others I looked at and the quality is awesome! The color is the perfect red and the best mix of matte and glossy (a little more on the matte side). If I’m looking for a more dramatic look, I will put a little gloss over the top to add some shine.

I’d love to know, what are some of your beauty favorites?

Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookies

On 19, Feb 2013 | No Comments | In recipes | By Shelby

photo-1

Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to break out your cookie cutter, pink food coloring and make some sugar cookies! Is there ever really a bad time to make heart shaped sugar cookies? If you ask me, definitely not. Just like pumpkin cookies on October first, sugar cookies are a Valentine’s Day staple around our house. My mom and I baked these together and we tried a new recipe this year… I’ve found a new favorite! They are soft, fluffy and just plain delicious. I can’t take credit for this recipe. I found it in a cookbook that was given to me for Christmas. It’s a collection of neighborhood favorites, and like I said, I’ve found a new one! So if you’re in the mood for a little lot of sugar, this recipe will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth. And remember, heart shaped sugar cookies are just too cute not to share! xo
